Learner Licence
- ICBC provides lots of resources to help you prepare for knowledge. Learn to Drive Smart is like a textbook for your knowledge test. It has all of the info you need. You can read it online, on our app, print out chapters or pick up a copy at any driver licensing office.
- The knowledge test is available in English, Arabic, Cantonese, Croatian, French, Farsi, Mandarin, Punjabi, Russian, Spanish and Vietnamese.
- You can take practice knowledge test here.
- To get L-Licence you need to pass the Knowledge Test, pass vision screening.
- Knowledge test contains 50 multiple-choice questions, you’ll need to get 40 out of 50 questions right.
- To take the knowledge test, you’ll need to go to an ICBC driver licensing office.
- Your knowledge test can take up to one hour, so please arrive at least two hours before closing time to get a spot.
- Bring following documents to take the knowledge test
– ID Card
– A signed and witnessed parent/legal guardian consent form if you’re under 19 (or have your parent/legal guardian come with you)
– $15, fee for knowledge test and learners licence - If you failed in your Knowledge Test, you can re-take the test on the next day, $15.00 fee will be charged again by the ICBC.
- Your learner’s licence is valid for 2 years. You can renew your learner’s licence by re-taking and passing the knowledge test.
- You are required to do at least 60 hours of practice in your L-Stage.
- While you are driving with a learner’s licence, you must follow these restrictions:
- A qualified supervisor must sit beside you when you are driving. Your supervisor must be 25 or older and hold a valid class 1,2,3,4 or 5 licence.
- You must not drive after consuming any amount of alcohol.
- You must not use hand-held or hands-free communication devices while driving.
- You must display the official L sign in your back windshield or on the rear of your vehicle when you are driving. It must be visible to drivers behind you.
- Only 2 passengers may be in the vehicle with you: your supervisor and 1 additional passenger.
- You may drive only between 5 a.m. to Midnight.
